2023 Call for Speakers

IPAI is seeking proposals for breakout session speakers and a keynote speaker at our 65th Annual State Conference at the Marriott Hotel in Normal, Illinois. Breakouts will be held Monday, March 27, and Tuesday, March 28, 2023. The keynote will take place during the opening general session on Monday, March 27, at 8 am. All presentations will be in-person. There is no virtual component to the conference.

Presentations should be relevant, engaging, thought-provoking, challenging, and seek to motivate attendees. Property assessment and appraisal professionals as well as subject matter experts in areas like land use, zoning, planning, leadership, management, and personal development are encouraged to submit proposals. There is no cost to present, but all breakout session speakers receive a 50% discount off conference registration (if they choose to attend the whole conference).

The deadline for call for speakers is Thursday, September 22, 2022.



Keynote Session Structure:

  • Length: 30-45 minutes.
  • Space: Hotel ballroom with stage, screen, projector, lecturn, and microphone.
  • Audience Seating: Theater style (chairs in rows, no tables).
  • Audience Size: About 250 people.


Breakout Session Structure:

  • Length: Each session is one hour including Q&A.
  • Space: Hotel ballroom with screen, projector, podium, and microphone.
  • Audience Seating: Theater style (chairs in rows, no tables).
  • Audience Size: Variable from 15 – 75. Conference attendees choose own breakout sessions.

Industry Partners and Vendors:

All vendors and industry partners are valued allies in assessment standards and best practices and are welcome to submit to the Call for Speakers. Please note, these cannot be product demonstrations or sales pitches for your products, and your presentation must include an assessment official from a township, county, or state office to partner with you in the presentation.

But I would like to demonstrate a product…

Great! There is a designated “Vendor Demonstrations” track at the conference available to all Silver & Gold Level sponsors. The demonstration can be made by members of your sales team or account executives. No A/V is provided beyond a screen and a projector with HDMI cconnection and any additional costs are the responsibility of the vendor. Spaces are limited. Contact us to learn more about sponsorship and product demonstrations.


Evaluation and Selection Process:

All submissions will be reviewed by the State Conference Committee. They will consider submission requests in the overall needs of the conference. Some selection criteria include:

  • Alignment to, or complement of, the 2023 conference theme ("Go The Distance")
  • Relevance to assessment industry in Illinois and current trends
  • Relevance to leadership, management, and personal development
  • Structure of presentation (lecture, panel, interactive, etc.)
  • What tangible knowledge attendees will take away from the session



  • September 7, Call for Speakers Opens (Submit basic info including session title, description, style of interaction, takeaways, etc.).
  • September 22, Submission Deadline.
  • October 3, Invitations to speak extended.
  • October 14, Submission deadline for Breakout Speaker Agreement.
  • March 1, Session material files due (PowerPoint, handouts, etc.).
  • At the conference, Arrive at Conference Check-in 30 minutes prior to presentation.
