DEPUTY TOWNSHIP ASSESSOR
1. Under general supervision, develop a full working knowledge of the Capital
Township (approximately 53,000 parcels) mass appraisal system, which includes
the listing and valuation of all land and building improvements in the township. Work
involves supervising assessment field and office staff, and assisting and
participating in assessments of land parcels and buildings; assisting taxpayers and
the general public with inquiries pertaining to appraisals and assessment
2. Apply knowledge of the appraisal process in dealing with the general public, other
related offices, and other interested parties, as well as the preparation of evidence
and testimony in assessment appeals, and to act as a representative of the office
with respect to any other assessment matter.
3. Develop a full working knowledge of the property tax levying and extension process,
which includes an understanding of PTELL and Truth in Taxation statutes and any
additions or changes to laws that limit levy increases; familiarity with budgets, audits,
financial reports and other property tax-related documents as submitted by taxing
4. Apply knowledge of the levying process in dealing with taxing bodies, state and local
offices involved in the property tax cycle (IDOR, County Treasurer and Board of
Review), general public and other interested parties. Employee must also exercise
considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with taxpayers, public officials
and the general public.
5. Other duties as assigned.
Qualified applicants should possess a strong background in property tax administration
or a related field, general knowledge of the real estate market, a working knowledge of
personal computers, excellent mathematical and communication skills, and problemsolving
