2021 IPAI Update

February 08, 2021

Dear Students,

After many months of anticipation, 2021 has finally arrived. Despite the start of a new year, we begin 2021 much the way we ended 2020 – with tighter budgets, cold weather, and COVID-19. Not exactly what any of us would describe an inspiring new beginning! However, there are bright spots coming that the IPAI is excited to hang our hat on.

We are launching two Virtual Qualifying Series (winter and fall) for those seeking to obtain their CIAO designation. The virtual version of our Qualifying Series had a soft launch last summer to much success and we are glad to make it a regular part of our annual schedule.

For those struggling with commercial properties during this global pandemic, we are offering a course entitled “Valuing Commercial Properties in a Declining Market” at both the Spring Conference and Northern Conference.

Lastly, we are thrilled to be going “back to the future” with our 2021 Spring Conference. For decades, the Spring Conference (formerly March Workshop) format included days of short breakout sessions that featured discussion panels, lectures, and guest presentations from property assessment subject matter experts. For Monday and Tuesday of Spring Conference, we are returning to this format. You can learn more about it on the Spring Conference webpage. A Conference Planning Committee has been working hard to bring this renewed format forward. Committee members include:

  • Mark Armstrong, CCAO, Kane County
  • Dale Butalla, Commercial Appraiser & Deputy Assessor, Joliet Township
  • Tim Jorczak, Senior Commercial Appraiser, City of Bloomington Township
  • Chesney Leafblad, Chief Deputy Assessor, Warren Township
  • Vicki Sheets, Assessor, Decatur Township
  • Amanda Padgitt, IPAI Learning Program Manager
  • Josh Barnett, IPAI Executive Director

We understand change is hard, but we also know this Spring Conference format served the Illinois assessment community well for decades. We are excited or all of you to join us in Normal March 21 – 26 and experience it for yourself.

See you soon,

Josh W. Barnett
Executive Director
