New Legal Descriptions Course

July 22, 2021

In partnership with Bruce Harris & Associates, the IPAI is launching a new 8-hour online course on legal descriptions. The course will be held via Zoom and will be presented in two four-hour sections. A follow-up 8-hour course is slated to be developed by mid-October for those who wish to log 15 exam hours.

About the course -

In class, students will learn about both the Public Land Survey System (PLSS) and the Metes and Bounds system, which are used to define and describe the boundaries of a parcel. Specifically, we will cover how to describe the components of each of these systems and how to read and write legal descriptions. The class will include how to read angles and bearings and will discuss units of measurement and conversions found within legal descriptions. By the end of the 8-hour online class, you should be able to read and write basic legal descriptions for parcels of land within your jurisdiction.
