Board of Review Training Update

July 22, 2025

In the fall of 2024 and in partnership with the Illinois Department of Revenue, we began a series of free training sessions for boards of review from counties with less than 3,000,000 inhabitants. The first training was held last year in East Peoria. This year, training sessions have taken place in Edwardsville and Effingham, with the final session scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, in Geneva. It will take place 5:30 – 7:30 pm in the Kane County Government Complex Auditorium.

These sessions are intended for members of the board of review, clerks of the board of review, states attorneys and assistant states attorneys, board of review support staff, and other key stakeholders within a local board of review structure. A large portion of the training focuses on board of review rules and best practices. Board of review statutory requirements and training resources are also shared, as well as updates from IDOR.

Our goal (IDOR and the IPAI) has been to help better equip boards of review with resources and best practices. This series of training sessions is the first step in that journey. Later this year, we will regroup, analyze data from training participants, consider what gaps may exist and began planning for 2026.

More information about our upcoming Board of Review Training in Geneva as well as the registration form can be found on our website. If you are in the collar counties or northern Illinois and one of the key stakeholders mentioned above, I hope you will consider joining us for this training session.
