Technology Requirements

Students taking an online course must have computers and technology that meet the following technology requirements.

 

USE OF SMARTPHONES OR TABLETS:

Learners should connect to the Zoom online classroom environment on a laptop or desktop computer, not a smartphone or tablet. If a computer is not available or not functioning at the time of class, smartphones and tablets may be used. If accessing the course using a mobile device, it must be a large-screen device such as the larger sized iPhone 17 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, or a tablet. Standard size smartphones cannot be used.

Smartphones and tablets may not be used for online exams. Online exams must be taken on a computer (laptop or desktop) that follow the IPAI Technology Requirements.

 

TECHNOLOGY MUST HAVES:

  • An internet connection – broadband wired or wireless. Minimum bandwidth is 1.0 Mbps (upload/download) and recommended is 1.5 Mbps (upload/download). 
    • Check your Internet bandwidth using Speedtest.
  • A microphone – built-in to your computer, or USB/USB-C plug-in, or wireless Bluetooth.
    • A headset or Bluetooth earbuds are highly recommended.
  • A webcam - one which is built-in to your computer or one that connects to your computer via USB/USB-C. 
  • Browser - current version of Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari on a computer running Windows 10 or 11 or macOS 11+ (Big Sur). Currently, Edge is not supported for macOS for online test proctoring.
  • Zoom – this is the app used by the IPAI to conduct all online virtual courses. Zoom can be downloaded for free from their website and is available in the Apple App Store as well as Google Play.

 

ZOOM BACKGROUNDS:

Web cams must be on during all virtual courses. Students must blur their background, use a virtual background native to the Zoom platform, use a plain wall, or use an IPAI provided background.
