IPAI Board Adds New Awards

November 15, 2021

At its recent November meeting, the IPAI Board of Directors approved the creation of two new annual awards. One will recognize outstanding achievement in large jurisdictions while the other will recognize outstanding achievement in small jurisdictions.

“We will continue to bestow the Marshall Theroux Memorial Award. This is our most special recognition piece and is not going away or changing in any way,” stated IPAI Executive Director Josh Barnett. “These new annual awards give us the opportunity for additional recognition. There are a lot of assessment professionals doing great work and now we can publicly recognize that in a formal way.”

Outstanding Achievement Award in Property Assessment (Large Jurisdiction) will go to an elected or appointed Certified Illinois Assessing Officer who oversees a township/multi-township jurisdiction of more than 25,000 residents or a county jurisdiction of more than 50,000 residents.

Outstanding Achievement Award in Property Assessment (Small Jurisdiction) is for an elected or appointed Certified Illinois Assessing Officer who oversees a township/multi-township jurisdiction of fewer than 25,000 residents or a county jurisdiction of fewer than 50,000 residents.

More information on the Outstanding Achievement Awards and the Theroux Award may be found on the IPAI website under the “Resources” menu.

“The process to nominate someone for the Theroux Award and these new awards is changing slightly,” Barnett continued. “In the past, we have allowed multiple nominations for each individual. Moving forward, the rule is one nomination per person. IACO handles the ‘County Official of the Year’ award in this way, and we think it is an approach that will work well for us.” If one person receives multiple nominations, the nominators will be contacted and asked to resubmit one nomination for that individual together.

Both new awards, as well as the Theroux Award, will be given during the IPAI Celebration Banquet at the State Conference taking place in Normal this coming April. Nominations are now open and will continue through mid-February.
