He began his career working with maps and legal descriptions in the early 1970’s. He worked for the Cook County Assessor’s office for 30 years, where he held ten management positions involving him in all aspects of the mapping and assessment process. Since retiring from Cook County as Manager of the Tax Parcel Division Department, he has continued to work as a mapping consultant to government agencies, law firms, and surveyors in addition to his position at Kane County. Projects include designing a custom GIS application and a number of high profile property, three dimensional legal description cases in downtown Chicago.
It should be no surprise that Sam teaches mapping and GIS courses for the IPAI! After working in this field for many years, teaching mapping is one of his favorite jobs. In addition to teaching for the IPAI, Sam is a Senior National Mapping Instructor for the International Association of Assessment Officers (IAAO) receiving the “Instructor of the Year Award” from the IAAO in 2013.
