Workplace Safety: Critical Situations in the Office

Our plenary session tackles a sensitive and relevant topic: workplace safety. Attendees will hear first from Jackson County, Iowa Assessor Larry “Buck” Koos who will share his personal account of an active shooter situation within the Jackson County Courthouse and how his quick thinking to tackle the shooter saved countless lives. Koos will also talk about his own physical and mental health journey after the incident.

The second half of the plenary session will be Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly. Director Kelly and his team will talk about workplace safety, situation awareness, and how best to handle critical situations within local county and township offices.

Attendees should be aware the presentations given during this plenary session could be emotionally difficult and stressful. Despite this, the IPAI feels the topic of workplace safety is of great importance and critical local assessment offices across the state.
